Dazzling DESS College Scoops Gatorade Bronze
DESS College's U15 five-a-side footballers scooped third place in their group in the world U16 finals of the Gatorade 5v5 tournament.
The UK tournament pitched DESC against 10 elite U16 teams from several of the world’s football strongholds, including Brazil, Germany, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. Brazil were the overall winners.
Before they reached the finals London, the team enjoyed a busy programme of UK-wide training and leisure activities, including tours of Manchester City FC’s Etihad Stadium and a visit to the Warner Bros studios.
The squad representing the College included Keshy Nand, Ishaq Mouffer, Daniel Mcdonald, Max Molander, Ryan Cheqri, and Gabi El Khouray. They are coached by DESS College Director of Football Paul Barratt, who is no stranger to the topflight having once been a Manchester City FC Youth Academy player and FA Youth Cup Winner 2006 with Liverpool FC.
"The boys worked really hard to get through to the final stages against many very strong teams and have all showed immense dedication and a willingness to listen and learn,” said Paul. “Competing on the world stage was an experience of a lifetime for them, and though all the other teams were a year older than our squad, we gave it our all and had a fantastic time. Finishing third in the group was a tremendous achievement, and then meeting Brazil football legend Kaka for a 20-minute media shoot and being interviewed by Sky Sports were experiences they’ll never forget.”
Player Keshy Nand said: "We're all absolutely buzzing. It was a massive honour to represent DESS College and Dubai on such a prestigious platform. We went to the UK to give it our very best, and we all know we did just that.”
Teammate Ishaq Mouffer added: "We prepared for what seemed like ages and were delighted to be given a chance to show what we're made of on a world stage. We all enjoyed every moment of this incredible experience."
